An interactive trade certification platform built for apprentices and Red Seal challengers — featuring standardized timed simulations, virtual bubble sheets, and live rigging calculation labs.
Apprentices preparing for their Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) and Red Seal exams have no shortage of heavy textbooks or outdated paper notes. What they lacked was a realistic way to test their readiness under genuine exam conditions.
Most study apps give immediate feedback after every tap. That feels satisfying, but it builds false confidence. On actual test day, students sit in quiet exam rooms with strict time limits, paper OMR bubble sheets, and no immediate hints. In trades like structural ironwork and certified application, candidates also face multi-step calculations — sling tension multipliers, wire rope capacity, and steel plate weights — where one missed formula costs critical marks.
Journeyman needed a clean, focused digital platform that trains real exam stamina, tests difficult formulas interactively, and tells candidates honestly when they are actually ready to book their exam.
We worked closely with trade educators to build Journeyman as a fast, distraction-free study and simulation environment:
We built the entire application using modern React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS. The app stays lightweight and lightning-fast even with hundreds of complex diagrams, question formulas, and active-recall flashcard sets.
State is saved locally in real time so an apprentice can do ten questions on a commute, close their phone, and pick up right where they left off without losing test progress or answers.
